Getting a new camera at work. Previously I had been using this camera which didn’t really belong to anyone but to which we had bought all the accessories to make it work.

True to its name this thing is a BEAR, it weighs 16.2 lbs as shown without 3 lb battery and ____ lbs lens. It sucks lugging it around but the images !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! .

My boss just came from from a budget meeting and my submission for the smaller, lighter (by a factor of 3) and [mostly] better URSA mini just came through

I’m going to miss overcraking to 120 frames (limited to 60 now) and global shutter at anything over 30 frames but I am STOKED for 15 stops of dynamic range. 15 stops! Just to put that into perspective that’s finally in the same league as Kodak super 35 3-perf film. Bonus points I’m also getting an EF 24-70 F/2.8 to pair with it. Should be a killer combo.

Aside from the weight, I actually love it. it has a 1080p 10 inch screen that is gorgeous (another thing I will miss) and the whole thing is built like a race car, machined metal and super high quality gaskets EVERYWHERE. Zero cheap parts. Even the cooling fan is ball bearing. Its one of the few products I’ve held with this rugged “look” that actually feels like it looks.

Sweet! At my old job we sold and rented a lot of BMD stuff. Never got my hands on an URSA before I left though
